Leo+Arruda

Leo Arruda

Leo Arruda was born in São Paulo, Brazil and started practicing martial arts early in life, when he was only 6 years old through Judo. At the age of 10, Leo switched his focus to Aikido, a martial art he studied deeply and where he achieved the grade of 2nd Dan – black belt).

When he was 19 years old, Leo did his very first BJJ training at Luiz Guilherme’s gym. One class was sufficient for Leo to get hooked and the next day he signed up to the Guigo Academy.

After training with the same dedication he had given to Aikido, in 2006 Leo earned his black belt. In the same year, he moved to the country of Bahrain, in the Middle East, where he taught Jiu Jitsu.

Then, in 2007, Leo received an invitation to come and train Jiu Jitsu in Adelaide, where he and Warwick Raymond founded the Arruda Team, an organisation that represents Guigo JJ on Australian soil.

As a Professor of Jiu Jitsu, Leo loves to see his students transfer the skills learnt in BJJ into everyday life skills, whether that be personally or even professionally. Using BJJ for self-development, achieving a sense of balance and improving wellness are his biggest goals.
